Good afternoon, you fine people! We’re going to keep it mellow for today.
Sonic ‘06 is one of those games that I really want to play. I want to witness those terrible controls for myself, not to mention I love Silver (and his theme; that’ll be for another day). And I will admit this is an…interesting choice of music for a result screen, whereas all of the other result musics are pretty upbeat. A good example is the most modern one, or the Sonic CD US release one.
But we’re here to talk about this! I think it’s a gorgeous arrangement, simple acoustic guitar fingerpicking through a mellow version of “His World”. It’s one of those songs I like to put on repeat and hum the melody, or play it on flute (or guitar), or sit in the bath and mellow right out to it. There’s something really powerful about the changes, IV - V - VIm - I, combined with the dark(er) key of F# major (or Gb, whichever you prefer), that takes a simple melody and really jacks it up. It’s a really beautiful arrangement no matter how you slice it.
Bonus! I did an 8-bit arrange of this some months ago, if you’re into that sorta thing.
